Dr Eftychia Karageorgou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Food Science and Technology of the International Hellenic University, with the academic subject “Quality Management Systems”. She holds a degree in Chemistry from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Master’s Degree in “Chemical Analysis – Quality Control”, jointly awarded by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2013, she received her PhD from the Department of Chemistry of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry of the same Department.
Her scientific and research interests focus on quality, food safety and environmental management systems, the implementation and auditing of international standards, analytical chemistry, and the development and validation of analytical methods for food quality and safety control.
Her research activity also includes the valorization of agri-food waste and by-products, the recovery of nutrients and value-added compounds, as well as applications related to sustainability and the circular economy.
She has extensive professional experience in the development, implementation and auditing of management systems, with particular emphasis on ISO 9001, ISO 22000 and ISO 14001, as well as in the certification of companies in the agri-food sector and other industrial fields. She has served as a Lead Auditor for Management Systems and as Director of the Northern Greece and Agri-Food Certification Office in an accredited certification body.
Her scientific activity includes publications in international peer-reviewed journals, contributions to international and national scientific conferences, authorship of a scientific book and book chapters, and peer-review activity for international scientific journals. She has also contributed to research projects addressing food quality assessment, sustainable agri-food processing, and the recovery and utilisation of valuable compounds from biological resources.
