Karageorgiou Vassilis

Vassilis Karageorgiou graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in March 1998. He received his Ph. D. from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering of Tufts University, USA in August 2004. His diploma thesis involved the study of silk as a potential biomaterial for mesenchymal stem cell differentiation and bone regeneration both in films and porous scaffolds. From September 2006 to May 2010 he was employed as collaborating researcher at the Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, Greece. In July 2010 he joined the Department of Food Science and Technology of the International Hellenic University (former Department of Food Technology of the Alexander Technological and Educational Institute of Thessaloniki), Greece as a Professor of Applications, since April 2015 as an Assistant Professor and since December 2021 as an Associate Professor. He is lecturing the courses Food Engineering II and Nanotechnology-Biomaterials and instructing in the labs of Food Engineering I, Food Engineering II, Food Processing II, Food Processing II, Food Packaging and Scientific Report Writing (Seminar). Meanwhile he continues his research in the areas of Biomaterials, Drug / Nutrient Delivery and Nanotechnology using biomaterials mainly from food sources. He has published 33 articles in international peer-reviewed journals that have been cited more than 10000 times (h-index 18) and participated in various conferences. He has participated in 8 research programs (3 as the principal investigator). Finally, he has supervised 46 undergraduate theses, 4 Masters theses and 1 (ongoing) Doctoral thesis.
